Exchange traded funds (ETFs) are available to help socially responsible investors diversify their portfolio, lower their expenses, increase thier tax efficiency, and to provide targeted sector exposure. ETFs that are of particular interest to SRI investors fall into four general categories, with some overlap:

1. Broadly screened SRI ETFs - diversified portfolios with traditional SRI screenings for environment, ethical, labor, and human rights issues.
2. Environmental - diversified and sector ETFs with a focus on sustainability and green issues
3. Alternative energy and clean technology - sector funds primarily intersted in solar, wind, fuel cell, energy efficiency and related companies
4. Water - sector funds in water infrastructure and water technology companies
